Katy's blog

This blog is for my niece Katy. She is almost 5 years old, and I am attempting to write the world from her perspective. She is such a delight, and I am proud to be raising such a joy. Check out my friends Jeff, Lisa, Kevin, and Becky at B98.5. Also visit ACH for the best doctors in the world.

August 24, 2004

Hi. My name is Katy. I will be 6 months old tomorrow. I live with my Aunt Sherry, Uncle Jason, and cousins Jon and Emily. My Nana and Great Grandma live close by. I just moved in with them two weeks ago. I will go back to live with my parents one day.

I had a rough day today. I didn't smile as much as usual. I have huge cheeks because my face muscles are well developed from smiling so much! Aunt Sherry tells me all the time my face is about to burst if I smile any bigger. What can I say, I'm a happy girl. But I was in a melancholy mood today. Just wanted to rest. I'm cutting a tooth, so my shirt stays soggy, even though my Aunt changes my clothes about 6 times a day. Soggy shirts aren't the most comfortable.

Aunt Sherry and Uncle Jason bought me a new walker. I really like the bright colors. It is red and purple and yellow, and has bright toys, and this shiny thing. Every time I see the shiny thing, there's another baby in it! When I smile, she smiles! She's really pretty, I wish I knew her name. Maybe one day. My feet touch the floor, just barely, when I'm in my walker. I can't wait until I grow big and strong enough to chase Aunt Sherry down the hall in it! Guess I have to learn to crawl first.

Aunt Sherry makes me eat my food from a shiny thing with yellow rubber on the end of it. I think she said spoon? I don't know, but the stuff she puts in it sure is tasty. I get rice cereal twice a day, and I'm getting the hang of not spitting it all out. Aunt Sherry makes me eat peas too, and I kinda like them, but I much prefer carrots. I ate most of a jar the first time Aunt Sherry fed them to me. They are really good! The only thing I don't like about eating lunch is that I make such a mess I have to take a bath. Dinner is the same. I get more cereal and applesauce and some kind of vegetable. I can't wait until I have teeth so I can have a chicken leg! They look so tasty! I tried to get Aunt Sherry's the other night, but she wouldn't let me have it.

I really love my Uncle Jason. He's funny. He tries to make me laugh by making funny faces at me or tickling my tummy. I'm not ticklish on my tummy, just my feet, but I smile at him anyway because I like the attention. He's a nice guy, and we're getting used to each other pretty well.

I have two big cousins to play with. They love to put me in the stroller and take me for walks. I love that. We live in a really tiny town where everyone knows us, and we're not allowed to go past Mrs. Susie's house, so we're safe here. They take me outside sometimes when they go to play with their friends. Emily and her friend Taylor like to take me to Taylor's house next door. Taylor's mommy likes to hold me and play with me.

Aunt Sherry and Uncle Jason take me to church too. I go to class with them, and have two friends my age in there! Shelby is two weeks older than me and she has a lot of hair! I can't wait until I get hair! Right now, Aunt Sherry says I have red peach fuzz. Haleigh is the oldest, she is 11 months old. She doesn't have much hair either. All three of us get passed around the grownups when their arms get tired from holding us. I'm really good in church too. I fell asleep during Pastor Gregg's sermon last Sunday. He was joking with Aunt Sherry after church that I know a good sermon when I hear it! The people at church really seem to love me. There wasn't but a week for Aunt Sherry to get things together for me to come live with her. She said we have the best church family in the world because they pulled together and made sure I had plenty of clothes, diapers, and a bed. My first trip to church with them I got tons of stuff! There were a bunch of pretty bags with onesies, rattles, binkys, clothes, shampoo, lotion, bibs, and all kinds of stuff! And Mrs. Shawna (Shelby's mom) dropped off a huge box of stuff today. Mrs. Shawna is the one who came to pick me and Aunt Sherry up from the airport too, so she was the first one I got to meet.

Aunt Sherry had to go to a PTA meeting tonight, so she left me home with Uncle Jason and Jon and Emmy. I was happy for a little while, but I missed Aunt Sherry. When she came home, I was in Uncle Jason's lap crying. But she picked me up and I quit crying right away. She took me to her room and laid down with me for a little while and I felt much better.

Well, I had my bottle while Aunt Sherry was gone, but it's time for my dinner now. Then I will take my bath and go to bed. I share a room with Emily so I'm not scared at night.

Bye bye!
